Pastor John Merck burns the mortgage as Pastor CeCee Mills looks on.

A glorious day

Palm Sunday was a glorious day for A Mighty Fortress, Charlotte! As we looked backwards in sorrow towards the remembrance of the upcoming Crucifixion of our Lord, Jesus Christ, we looked forward to the burning of our church mortgage! Many friends, family members, and partner churches joined us on March 25 as we celebrated the momentous event.

The Rev. Dr. Timothy M. Smith, bishop of the NC Synod, conducted the morning worship service. Our Pastor Emeritus, the Rev. John Merck, burned the mortgage. And we honored the visionary team: Rick Rozzelle, Terry Saunders, Greg Damron, and Junior Bryant, who—led by the Holy Spirit—helped us accomplish this momentous achievement!

We give thanks to everyone who has given and supported our church ministry these past 55 years.  To God be the glory!  God’s Work. Our Hands.
