On the first Sunday of Advent, Advent Lutheran Church in Charlotte unveiled its inaugural art gallery installation, This I Believe, now prominently displayed in the narthex. Designed as a bridge between the sanctuary and the gathering space, the exhibit creates a thoughtful pause for visitors—a reminder that each of us is woven into the tapestry of faith.
Presented with prayerful intention, the gallery invites viewers to encounter a wide range of artistic expressions that reflect the congregation’s shared faith statement. As the original call for artists asked, the works represent the many interpretations and life experiences that shape their community.
Curated by Luther seminarian Deloris Bainbridge and supported by Pastor Ward Misenheimer’s vision and guidance, the installation leads worshipers on a visual journey through Luther’s Small Catechism, with each piece serving as a creative signpost along the way. The art—and the community that gathered to create and support it—ushers Advent, Charlotte, into the season with fresh, expansive imagination.
The congregation is also hosting a Zoom study on the Apostles’ Creed on Sunday afternoons from 4–5 p.m., offering participants a deeper look at the themes and artwork featured in the gallery.
For congregations curious about revitalizing their own spaces through art, Amelia Osborne and Tom Eure of Inspired Arts & Sound offer free creative consultations to help explore new possibilities.
