“In His Own Words” is a documentary of Dr. Leonard H. Bolick’s eighteen plus years as bishop of the North Carolina Synod. The documentary is an edit of over three hours of oral history interviews conducted by the Rev. Dr. Mark Ericson of St. John’s, Concord. Many dramatic events took place while Dr. Bolick was bishop and he gives insights on how he guided the synod through his love, forgiveness and grace. Master copies of all the interviews are stored in St. John’s Heritage Center in Concord and the James R. Crumley Archives in Columbia, S.C., for historical research. The Heilig Resource Center of the NC Synod has two copies of the documentary “In His Own Words” for congregations and groups to borrow for viewing.
The Peeler/Casey Funds financed the making of the oral history interviews and has made the recording equipment available for congregations who would like to start an oral history project. The equipment, with instruction on its use and how to start an oral history project in your congregation, can be checked out by appointment at St. John’s Heritage Center, att: Dr. Mark J. Ericson, 100 St. John’s Church Road, Concord, NC, 28025. The phone number is (704) 436-6081.
