St. John’s, Cherryville, shares slippers and stories
Stirred by God the Spirit, the folks of St. John’s, Cherryville, headed out in joyful service for “God’s work. Our hands.” Sunday! We have been in partnership with Heritage Oaks Assisted Living Nursing Center in Gastonia in the past, bringing clothes and other materials, and had noticed a desperate need for slippers and bedroom shoes.
Our Director of Social Ministry, Kim Eaker, contacted their management to get shoe sizes. On Sunday September 8, we took our bus there with bedroom shoes for all! The residents were excited to receive the shoes—and we were excited to receive blessing, celebrate God’s abundance, and grow in relationship with our neighbors, God’s children, and the greater community. Real joy was found as we shared shoes and life stories, then sang hymns together in praise. God is good!
