Members of St. Mark’s, Lumberton, visited residents and staff at GlenFlora nursing home in Lumberton to worship, visit, and serve ice cream sundaes to the approximately fifty residents of GlenFlora. GlenFlora has been managed by Lutheran Services Carolinas for about five years.
There were smiles all around. Serving up sundaes and cookies and voices blending as SAM (Synod Authorized Minister), Minister Deb Rosenberg, led a brief worship service and the residents enjoyed singing and praying together.
“It’s good to be able to go out into the community and greet our neighbors in the name of Christ. For so long, we were not able to do that, so today was special. This was about more than ice cream,” said Robert Arndt, president of the congregation council. “This was about caring for people and letting them feel God’s love. Sometimes people in facilities like GlenFlora feel abandoned and ignored. One resident commented, ‘You mean you all did this just for us?’ We answered, ‘Of course we did!’ That’s what God’s Work. Our Hands. does. It lets us find opportunities to serve our neighbors. It builds loving connections with our community.”
