Mt. Olive, Hickory, has weekend of service
Mt. Olive, Hickory, had a “God’s Work. Our Hands.” weekend of service.
Saturday morning, we gathered to pack 100 blessing bags for the homeless for the first project. After packing the bags, a small group went to the Soup Kitchen and handed them out. Later, the car wash was hard work, but fun—holding signs and dancing!—and the youth and adults washed 25 cars. A card was given out explaining the car wash was free but we asked the person to pay it forward. A couple who had evacuated from Florida because of Hurricane Irma came through with their car.
On Sunday morning, several packed “Thank You” blessing bags for the Hickory Police Officers and Support Staff and for the Hickory Firefighters. And, during worship, children’s story time was about what “God’s Work. Our Hands.” means. The children then went through the congregation collecting money for the “pickle jar” which is used to help persons in need. Following worship was a delicious meal prepared by serving hands. On Sunday afternoon Lutheran World Relief Health Kits and School Kits were packed using donations from the congregation and a Thrivent action grant. Finally, youth and adults went to Trinity Ridge Nursing and Rehab Community to help with the Sunday afternoon worship and the transporting of residents.
