Morning Star, Matthews, is counting!
Morning Star, Matthews, celebrated “God’s Work. Our Hands” Sunday with a unified worship service followed by participation in servant experiences either on site or in our community. By the end of the morning, 1600 bologna sandwiches were prepared for Urban Ministry, 50 dozen cookies were baked and placemats were created for KAIROS prison ministry, 118 handbells were polished, 100 gift bags were put together for our neighborhood middle school teachers, trash was cleaned from our adopted street (as we celebrated 20 years of caring for creation through this ministry), faith formation leaders planned and readied our classrooms, and teams visited our local fire and police stations to pray for them and deliver cards and freshly baked cookies. We are thankful for the Thrivent action grants which helped to provide our supplies for these projects. Gathering the generations together around a shared mission builds up our community too—it was beautiful to see new relationships budding and to hear the unexpected conversations that unfolded while our hands were busy working; our congregation was also fed and nourished by “God’s Work, Our Hands” Sunday.
