The Road to Freedom: Lenoir-Rhyne A Cappella Choir Concert

Event Description

On Sunday, March 22, at 7:30 p.m., North Carolina A&T University, the Lenoir-Rhyne A Cappella Choir, and the choirs of Southeastern Louisiana University Choir and North Carolina A&T University will offer a joint concert retelling the story of the 1961 Freedom Rides. This will kick off the choir’s weeklong tour retracing the route from Washington, D.C. to Jackson, MS.

Will you consider publicizing this event in your congregation?

A Note from Dr. Ryan Luhrs
Director of Choral Activities, Associate Professor of Music, Sacred Music Program Coordinator | Lenoir-Rhyne University

The NC Synod’s Peeler/Casey Fund provided $5,000 to help offset the cost of this tour, and we are now in the final stages of a fundraising effort to fund this project. If willing, you may share this link with individuals or congregations who might feel called to support work that connects sacred music, student formation, and the ongoing work of justice:

Support the Lenoir-Rhyne A Cappella Choir Freedom Rides Tour

Of all the tours I’ve led in the past 10 years at Lenoir-Rhyne, I feel this one best reflects our call to form whole and courageous leaders who connect faith with public witness. By building relationships across racial and institutional lines and lifting up the Christian teachings that sustained the nonviolent Civil Rights Movement, the project embodies collaboration and a prophetic proclamation of resurrection hope.

Thank you for any support you are able to offer this endeavor.
