Event Description
Retired ELCA pastor, the Rev. Dr. Kenneth W. Wheeler, long-time friend and colleague of the NC Synod and the synod’s Racial Justice Network, will be in the synod in June to share his story and discuss his newly-published book. He will offer a book reading and Q&A at St. Paul’s, Durham, on Saturday, June 10, at 2:00 p.m. After a career of service to the church, he shares his experience as a Black pastor in a majority-White denomination in hopes of helping us all to grow in love and justice together, freeing all of us from the evil of White supremacy. If you’re interested in helping the ELCA become a more just and inclusive church for all, if you want to celebrate Pastor Wheeler’s gift to the church, or if you simply want to honor his courage in sharing his story, please come. Order his book US: The Resurrection of American Terror from Amazon or Barnes & Noble. Questions? Contact SJAM coordinator, Michael Dickson.
“Dr. Wheeler has exposed decades of personal and public pain. I hope you hear his pain every single day (if that is what you need to act) because he feels it every single day. For love’s sake, fight to stop the pain. Fight for God’s beloved community through the death of white supremacy and the rise of equity.”—the Rev. Lucille “CeCee” Mills, Assistant to the Bishop, North Carolina Synod ELCA
